In 1956, the dairy was first established in Rajkot by the Animal Husbandry Department of the Gujarat State under a pilot project of UNICEF - a sister concern of the UNO. Subsequently the Rajkot District(Dist.) Maldhari Cooperative Union Ltd. was formed on 5.9.1961 with the objective to bring "socio-economic development" in Maldhari Community (Animal keepers).

This year, the Rajkot District Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd.(RDCMPULtd.) is celebrating its "Golden Jubilee" and we must think and plan to build a better organized and strong co-operative Dairy Industry, to provide number of services to the milk producers which will improve their socio-economic status and make available pure milk and milk products of commendable quality.

A Closer View of the History

1956-57

  • Established the 'Milk Conservation Project' at Rajkot by Govt. with the help of UNICEF.

1961-62

  • Rajkot Dist. Coop. Milk Producers Union Ltd. was registered under cooperative societies act, managed by AH Deptt. of Govt. of Gujarat under Milk Conservation Project, Rajkot.

1963-64

  • Production started with a capacity of 40,000 LPD fluid milk and production of 1500 kg/day milk powder.

1970-71

  • Deptt. of AH handed over the management to the Gopalak Sangh on Rs.1/- token charge.

1972-73

  • Once again the dairy was handed over to Rajkot Milk Union with total assets, liabilities and manpower. The total liabilities were in the tune of Rs.61.0 Lacs and Share capital of Rs. 6,5 Lacs.

1972-1977

  • Union was unable to perform its activities during this period.

1977-1981

  • Joint Management of Milk Union with Gujarat Dairy Development Corporation Ltd. (GDDC).

1980-81

  • Project of Gopalak Co-operative Milk Producers' Union Ltd. handed over on experimental basis for two years (till Apr 1982) to GDDC which also made cash loss of Rs. 44.0 Lacs and total loss of Rs.60.0 Lacs during the period. Later the GDDC and Rajkot Milk Union (RMU) shared 50% of cash loss.

1982-83

  • GDDC managed the dairy for one year.

1983-84

  • Nov to 1988 Oct : The milk union was managed by GDDC as per leave and license agreement.

1988-89

  • 2nd Nov : GDDC handed over the management of RMU to the Rajkot Dist. Coop. Milk Producers' Union Ltd.

1990-91

  • Rajkot Milk Union became the ordinary members from Associate Members of GCMMF Ltd.NDDB funded the Rajkot Milk Union under O.F. programme to arrange village level Dairy Cooperatives to establish dairy plant of 1.0 Lacs Ltr./day capacity.

1999-2000

  • Started packing 5000 LPD milk under 'AMUL' brand.

2002-2003

  • Visit of Late (Dr.) V. Kurien.

2004-2005

  • Expansion of Milk Processing capacity from 1.0 LLPD to 1.75 LLPD.

2005-2006

  • ISO 9001-2008 Certification.

2006

  • Consolidation of ' Gopal ' and ' Amul ' Brand for Liquid Milk Marketing.

2006-07

  • New Leased BMC Unit at Majewadi, Junagadh (1st Nov)

2007-08

  • New BMC Unit at Jamkandorna, Rajkot (28th Sept)

2010-11

  • New BMC Unit at Lajjai, Morbi (21st May)

2011-12

  • Re-opening of Vinchhia Milk Chilling Centre (BMC based) after renovation (1st Dec)

2012-14

  • ISO 22000 Certification & Implementation of SAP Software in Collaboration with IBM.

2013-14

  • New Leased BMC Unit at Kalawad, Jamnagar (14th Dec)

2014-15

  • Expansion of milk processing capacity from 1 LLPD to 6 LLPD with world class automated plant (SCADA Features).

2016-17

  • New Latest Milk Chilling Centre at Wankaner (Morbi) - Greenfield Project (21st Nov)
